Rome, Gelato, Passionate Cursing and Il bel far niente!

Hi All! It's late and I should have posted this by Tuesday at the latest, but as so often is my reality, I am remiss.

So for this weekend sometime, please try to read up to Chapter 34 (pg. 104). I'm really starting to enjoy the book and have slid into the groove of the author's personality and experiences. Hope you're liking it, too.

Since week 1, we appear to have lost Sarah and Carol, but have gained Vikki McGuire, and hopefully Holly's sister-in-law Laurie! My friend Stephanie indicated that she might join, too. Randine has been reading and will be weighing in soon I'm sure.

If anyone wants to start a discussion post, please e-mail me and I'll give you my sign-in and password so that you can initiate a post/thread. Otherwise feel free to stick a comment in anywhere--we'll find it! ;-) Happy reading trails to you all.

P.S. If, as Nancy pointed out, Luca Spaghetti is a substitute name, what do you think his real name might have been?

  1. I am liking this so much more than I thought I would. Yes, I very much wanted to know what the hidden issues were in the failed marriage but I respected Gilbert for not disclosing the dirt. Her integrity is especially commendable since her ex turned out to be a tool for the divorce lawyers. Ugh. He probably has a tiny weenie.

I loved the meeting with the medicine man. "See you later, alligator." Wish he was my neighbor. Wish he was my grandpa. Since he looks like Yoda I do not wish he was my husband.

Regarding Naples - Pam, if I ever get to Naples I want you to be with me. Those people sound scary. I think you could take them on. (I would be your cowering back-up).

Maybe Luca Spaghetti is really Nino Ravioli.

  3. Ah, our Nancy has come in and breathed a little logic into our silliness. Thanks for the link, Nancy, which I explored. Luca needs more English interaction, I believe. He's also not quite as hot as I imagined, but he has a very thoughtful expression--at least in pictures. But I liked his link to Elizabethgilbert.com (which Nancy probably posted but we rudely overlooked), and I listened to some of her lecture on creatity on TED--and she comes off as vividly bright and witty and I really liked her.
Hey, is it just a coincidence that I've just come home from a spectacular dinner at a sweet little Italian restaurant called Ravioli's in Lake Elsinore of all places? I had chianti and muscles and there is no WAY I could zip a single pair of jeans I own up at the moment!

Still, just for fun for a moment, how about Angelo Cannoli ... is it just too much to think that he and Nino Ravioli and Luca Spaghetti could start a society somewhere ?
